File Sharing: The Next Big Tool For Any Project

Source: http://www.qnap.com/images/features/File_Sharing.png
File sharing is one of the biggest tools a team can utilize. It opens lines of communication and offers ways to collaborate work with each other. Whether it be developing software or writing a group paper, any project can use file sharing to their advantage.

One of the biggest tools for file sharing is Google documents. You can share word, powerpoint, excel, any documents really, and have your teammates edit and resubmit them. You can even look at a log to see who has contributed to the document and when they did it. I haven't realized how great of a tool this was up until taking this course. The collaborative power you gain is so powerful.

As a computer science major, I've always been looking for a way to safely and securely share my codes with other team members. Google now offers a great way to share your projects of Google code. You can submit your own files and share it with the world, or people that you invite. This is another tool that I've learned to utilize and take advantage of. Take a look around at their site and see if it can help you.

Any team can benefit from file sharing programs and Google offers a great way to centralize and collaborate your team's work. Any programmer will know that working as a team is the way too getting projects done quickly and efficiently and file sharing is the next frontier to help you accomplish that.

  1. Hi Steve,
Using file sharing to help team work and collaboration will be an interesting topic. You provided a good discussion in this blog about the topic. I haven’t used Google code before while Google doc is part of my life. If you want to discuss one step further, then I guess the discussion about the smart version control system used by Google code and Google doc will be attractive.

  2. Hello Steve,

First of all, your choice of image is great; it is clean and represents all three major operating systems. :-) You mention that you have not used Google Documents until this class, and you show the reader its usefulness. I, myself, had not really used Google Documents until a class this summer, so I can relate. You also mention Google Code, which I have not heard of until now. I might even check it out after I am finished with my work here. Good job, and I mean it. Your blog is straight to the point, but still compelling. Keep it up!

  3. Hi Steve,
First of all, it's a good writing. All the stuff include the image, paragraph, sentence makes me clearly understand the point. Thanks to you introduction and now I know one of the way doing file sharing, which is google.
Actually, I never used google sharing system before I came here, people in my place are often use USB driver to share the file. Now I realize that the google doc is really convenience when doing the team work. So I agree with your point of view.
    Thanks to your blog!

  4. Steve,
The point that you make is a very valid one. One needs to collaborate if one is expected to build complex software and collaborating would be an easy way to share files. Although I agree with you that Google Docs and the ilk make doc and other files easy, I feel that one is better off using versioning systems that will allow the collaborators to do much more than just share files. It will allow users to compare two different versions of the same piece of code along with some other beneficial features.

    Overall well written post!
